Sergeant Michael Shovlin Nomination for the 2024 Craig Hanaumi Service Award  

I am honored to nominate Sergeant Michael Shovlin for the 2024 Craig Hanaumi Service Award.  Throughout his 29 years of exceptional service to the City of Bellevue, Sergeant Shovlin has  demonstrated all the qualities that this award represents. He has shown outstanding  professional achievement, personal commitment, strong community service, and a dedication  to public safety that has earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the  community. 

As a Motorcycle Sergeant in the Traffic Unit for the past sixteen years, Sergeant Shovlin has  worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of hundreds of thousands of residents, guests, and  visitors who have attended the many festivals and events in the City of Bellevue. He has  planned, staffed, and worked most of the significant special events in the city, including the 4th  of July celebration, Snowflake Lane, Arts Fair festival, and the Rock and Roll half marathon. His  commitment to public safety and the community has been unwavering, and his work ethic and  dedication to creating the safest experience possible have been an inspiration to his colleagues. 

Sergeant Shovlin brings an intangible leadership quality that few possess. He is a respected  leader in the organization who inspires those around him with his work ethic and commitment  to the law enforcement profession throughout his career. He exudes the core values of our  organization – Respect, Accountability, Integrity, and Service – in everything he does. He has  served as a steady guide for all of our organization during difficult times and has been a rock of  support for many of his fellow officers. His legacy and impact on our department will be long lasting. 

In sum, Sergeant Shovlin exemplifies the very best police service our department has to offer  the City of Bellevue. He has led by example and an indomitable work ethic that has inspired  hundreds of officers who have had the privilege of serving with him. As a selfless leader who is  a catalyst in our agency, Sergeant Shovlin leads with poise, understanding, finesse, humor, grit,  and determination. It is my honor to nominate him for this prestigious award.
