BPF invests $195,727 in public safety tools

A team of armed tactical officers, equipped with public safety tools like helmets and shields, advances strategically near vehicles in an outdoor area.

Bellevue Police Foundation directly impacts Bellevue Police Department’s ability to provide the best public safety tools and programs by investing in innovative programs, training, tools and equipment that are not included in the city’s budget.

After an extensive internal vetting process, on September 17, officers presented their most important requests, and the Board of Directors at Bellevue Police Foundation voted to raise funding for five major equipment requests:

  • 20 sophisticated communication earpieces for the SWAT team
  • 2 unmanned aerial systems (drones) for use by patrol units
  • 8 rifle rated ballistic shields for use by patrol units
  • 1 portable ballistic coverage device  
  • 30 chairs for records department

These requested items will enhance public safety by improving officer communication, protection, efficiency, response times and staff comfort. Each item serves to better equip the police department to handle both day-to-day operations and high-risk situations, sultimately contributing to a safer community.

The requests totaled $195,727 and the Board committed to provide all of the funds requested.
