Bellevue Police Officers Receive State’s Highest Recognition
On May 3rd, 2024, three Bellevue Police Officers were awarded the very special Medal of Honor from Washington State. Officers Kealii Akahane, Caleb Worthington and Jeff Sebers were recognized for Exceptionally Meritorious Conduct While in the Performance of Duty at the ceremony and reception held in Olympia.
Their heroic actions in June 2022, where they saved the life of a young man who tried to harm himself at Phantom Lake, have earned them this prestigious recognition. Sergeant Kevin Masseth nominated them for this award, and the Medal of Honor Committee agreed with his recommendation after careful review.
In 1994, the Washington State Legislature established the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor. This honor is reserved for police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, or who have distinguished themselves by exceptional meritorious conduct. We are grateful to our officers for their heroism and service to the city of Bellevue.
