Recent Grant Success Story

We want to share a recent success story that highlights the immediate impact of the Bellevue Police Foundation’s generous investment in helping Bellevue Police Department acquire the Berla iVE vehicle forensics system earlier this year.

BPD recently had the opportunity to use the system during an active criminal investigation. The case involved a newer-model BMW X6 that had been stolen during a residential burglary while the homeowners were out of town. Two high-end vehicles were taken during the incident, and the BMW was later used in additional criminal activity.

Using the Berla iVE system, BPD successfully acquired data from the vehicle’s infotainment system. The forensic examination revealed phone data left behind by the suspect, including call activity made while the suspect was in possession of the vehicle and a contact list containing nearly 200 entries. Through that information, investigators were able to identify the suspect in approximately three minutes. Additionally, the recovered contact data appears to include numerous individuals known to law enforcement and is expected to provide valuable investigative intelligence as the case progresses.

This case demonstrates the immediate value of the Foundation’s investment. The ability to conduct this work in-house significantly accelerated the investigation and provided evidence that would have been difficult, if not impossible, to obtain through traditional investigative methods. The training and equipment funded through Bellevue Police Foundation has already proven to be an invaluable asset to the Bellevue Police Department.

BPF’s investment has already generated tangible investigative results within days of the system becoming operational.
